Symptoms of INFERTILTIY , FEMALE

Causes of INFERTILTIY , FEMALE

The normal reproduction process requires interaction between the female and male reproductive tracts. The woman ovulates and releases an egg from her ovaries to travel through the fallopian tube to her uterus (womb). The male produces sperm. Both egg and sperm normally meet in the woman’s fallopian tube, where fertilization occurs. The embryo then implants in the uterus for further development. Infertility occurs when something in this pattern does not happen. The problem could be with the woman, with the man, or with both. Unknown factors cause infertility 10% of the time. For infertility with an unknown cause, all findings from standard tests may be normal. The actual cause of infertility may not be detected because the problem may be with the egg or sperm itself or with the embryo and its inability to implant. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) Sexually transmitted diseases, namely, gonorrhea and chlamydia, may be associated with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and damage a woman’s fallopian tubes. Your health care provider can detect PID with a Pap smear and blood testing for sexually transmitted diseases. If you don’t recall ever having PID, your doctor may be able to see scarring or blockage of the tubes during a surgical procedure called laparoscopy. Tiny cameras and instruments are inserted through small cuts in your abdomen to allow the doctor to view your reproductive organs. Endometriosis Endometriosis affects women during their reproductive years. It can cause pelvic pain and infertility. You may be at risk for developing it if you have a family history of the disease. With endometriosis, uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus and may damage the ovaries and fallopian tubes. You may not know you have a mild form of this condition. Sometimes your doctor finds it during laparoscopy. Environmental and occupational factors Certain environmental factors may cause men to produce a less concentrated sperm, according to a government report. Exposure to lead, other heavy metals, and pesticides has also been associated with male infertility. Many other factors, such as excessive heat exposure, microwave radiation, ultrasound, and other health hazards, are more controversial as to whether they induce infertility. Toxic effects related to tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs Smoking may cause infertility in both men and women. In experimental animals, nicotine has been shown to block the production of sperm and decrease the size of a man’s testicles. In women, tobacco changes the cervical mucus, thus affecting the way sperm reach the egg. Marijuana may disrupt a woman’s ovulation cycle (release of the egg). Marijuana use affects men by decreasing the sperm count and the quality of the sperm. Heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine use induces similar effects but places the user at increased risk for PID and HIV infection associated with risky sexual behavior. In women, the effects of alcohol are related more to severe consequences for the fetus. Nevertheless, chronic alcoholism is related to disorders in ovulation and, therefore, interferes with fertility. Alcohol use by men interferes with the synthesis of testosterone and has an impact on sperm concentration. Alcoholism may delay a man’s sexual response and may cause impotence (unable to have an erection). Exercise Exercise should be encouraged as part of normal activities. However, too much exercise is dangerous, especially for long-distance runners. For women, it may result in disruption of the ovulation cycle, cause no menstrual periods, or result in miscarriages (loss of pregnancy). In men, overexercise may cause a low sperm count. Inadequate diet associated with extreme weight loss or gain Obesity is becoming a major health issue in the United States. Obesity has an impact on infertility only when a woman’s weight reaches extremes. Weight loss with anorexia or bulimia can create problems with menstrual periods (no periods) and thyroid levels, thus disrupting normal ovulation. Age A woman becomes less fertile as she ages into her fifth decade of life (age 40-49 years). Among men, as they age, levels of testosterone fall, and the volume and concentration of sperm change. Healthy couples younger than 30 years who have regular sexual intercourse and use no birth control methods have a 25-30% chance of achieving pregnancy each month. A woman's peak fertility is early in the third decade of life. As a woman ages beyond 35 years (and particularly after age 40 years), the likelihood of becoming pregnant is less than 10% per month.

Treatment Of INFERTILTIY , FEMALE

A specialist should see the patient so that the specific cause is found and treated.

The following measures are helpful:

Banayan Roots: The tender roots of the banayan tree are one of the valuable remedies found beneficial in the treatment of female sterility where there are no organic defects or congential deformities. These roots should be dried in the shade and finely powdered. About twenty grams of this powder should be mixed with milk, which should be five times the weight of the powder, and taken at night for three consecutive nights after the monthly periods are over. When this remedy is administered, no other food should be eaten for a short while thereafter. This remedy should be repeated after that the completion of the menstrual cycle every month till conception takes place.

Jambul Leaves: An infusion of the fresh tender leaves of jambul fruit is an excellent remedy for sterility or miscarriage due to an ovarian or endometrium functional disorder. The infusion can be prepared by pouring 250 ml of boiling water over 20 gm of fresh jambul leaves, and allowing it to steep for two hours. The infusion may be taken with either two teaspoons of honey or 200 ml of buttermilk.

Winter Cherry: The herb winter cherry is another valuable remedy found helpful in sterility. The herb should be powdered and six grams of this powder should be taken with one cup of milk for five to six nights after menstruation.

Nutrients: Certain nutrients, especially vitamins C and E and zinc, have been found helpful in some cases of sterility. A woman who is unable to conceive should take 1000 mg of vitamin C, 100 I.U. of vitamin E and 30 mg of zinc daily.

Dietary Considerations

Physical debility and functional faults of organic nature can be cured by simple and effective methods of natural treatment, of which optimum nutrition is an essential part. Fasting is the best remedy for the treatment of disorders resulting from toxins in the system. Women who are unable to bear children should undertake a short fast of two or three days at regular intervals.

Diet is an important factor in the treatment of sterility. It should contain seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables, and fruits. These foods should be supplemented with milk, vegetable oils, and honey. Curd and cottage cheese are also recommended. About seventy to eighty per cent of the diet should consist of foods in their natural uncooked state, because cooking destroys much of the nutritional value of most foods. Sprouting is an excellent way of consuming seeds, beans, and grains in their raw form, as in the process of sprouting, the nutritional value is multiplied, new vitamins are created and the protein quality is improved. Excessive fat, spicy foods, strong tea, coffee, white sugar, white flour, refined cereals, flesh foods, greasy or fried foods should all be avoided.

Diet:

1. Mantain an overall healthy diet – Use fresh foods as close to the natural state as possible, avoiding prepackaged and processed foods. Eat daily servings of leafy green vegetables, whole grains (such as brown rice and rolled oats), fresh fruit, and proteins with a minimum of animal fat. Avoid sugars (such as in pastries and candy) and refined carbohydrates (such as white bread and white rice). Drink at least 8 cups of fluids daily. For more information, refer to the article on healthy diet.

2. Emphasis in cases of infertility should be put on avoiding artificial colorings and flavors commonly added to food. Read the labels to become acquainted with the product content.

3. Avoid caffeine-containing foods such as coffee, tea, sodas, and chocolate.

4. Avoid alcohol, smoking, and the use of recreations drugs.

Other effective Remedies for INFERTILTIY , FEMALE

The bowels should be cleansed by a warm-water enema during the period of fasting and afterwards when necessary. This will have a beneficial effect not only on the digestive system but also on the surrounding organs of the urinary and genital system. Other helpful measures in overcoming female sterility are mudpacks and cold water treatments like a hipbath and wet girdle pack. These treatments greatly improve internal circulation in the genital organs and relieve them of all kinds of inflammation and other abnormalities. Mudpacks may be applied to the abdomen and sexual organs. The cold hip bath should be taken for ten minutes at a water temperature hip bath should be taken for ten minutes at a water temperature of 10 degrees C - 18.3 degrees C. For a wet girdle pack, a thin underwear wrung in cold water should be worn. Over this, a thick, dry cotton or woolen underwear should be worn. All cold treatments should be suspended during menstruation.

Certain yogasanas which are said to tone up the gonads or ovaries should also be practiced regularly for overcoming female sterility. These asanas are sarvangasana, matsyasana, ardhamatsyendrasana, paschimottanasana and shalabhasana.

All these measures, along with clean habits, proper rest, and relaxation will go a long way in overcoming female sterility.
